The Dean of the Institute of Laser for Postgraduate Studies at University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Kadhum A. Adem, attended the scientific seminar entitled “A Perspective of Law and Sharia on Genetic Engineering”, organized by the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies at University of Baghdad. He was received by the Dean of the Institute, Prof. Dr. Salwa Jaber Al-Awadi, and the Dean of College of Law, Prof. Dr. Ali Hadi Al-Hilali, along with a number of professors and researchers from various specialties.
The seminar aimed to shed light on the legal and Sharia dimensions related to the rapid developments in the field of genetic engineering, and to discuss the ethical challenges that may accompany the use of modern biotechnologies. It also addressed how to achieve a balance between scientific progress and the protection of human values in light of Sharia and law provisions.
The Dean of the Institute of Laser praised the importance of this type of seminar, which brings together modern sciences and legal and Sharia perspectives, for its role in establishing responsible use of modern scientific technologies in a way that serves society.
